: wuzuuuup, I just got a new bass and i love it a lot, but when i play slap bass it sounds pretty bad. the bass is a yamaha 5 string BBG5S series, it has active electronics, but it still sounds like crap. does any one have any input on this bass or any advice to make me sould better. please tell meeee!!!!!!!! thanx

Hi James,
I had a BBG5S and I did figure out how to get a pretty decent slap tone out of it, here's how.
I use a Trace Elliot pre-amp the secret to getting a good funk sound is buy cutting the high mids on a graphic eq. This gave me the modern funk sound that Nathan East uses. For the money I don't think there is a better 5 string around. I am using the new Yamaha TRB-6II bass now and I love it. Check out my tribute page to Nathan East to hear some samples of how my bass sounds.
Regards,
Paul
