Hello,

I can definitely understand where youre coming from on finding the appropriate equipment to use as a beginner. I have not long ago, started playing myself, but along the way I have learned a lot. The most important thing to remember is to purchase a bass and speakers that YOU like the sound of. As far as finding a bass and speakers within your price range, you may want to also consider used (but in good condition) equipment.
Personally I would suggest starting out with a 4 string bass, because it has a neck that is easier to hold than that of a 5 string or 6 srring..etc.
But you may find a good four stringer starting at $200.00 and a 40 watt amp at $120.00(plus accessories like neck strap, cord and optional guitar pick. Hope this helped you. Good luck fellow bass player.
