: Timing is almost the more important part in a bassist!!. There are a lot of ways to practice your time, but the better of all of them is playing along with a metronome.

I think a metronome is a good idea, however I don't think you need to use it 100% of the time. Make sure though you have it beating on the second and forth beat, like a drummer's high hat to get the timing and groove better. Don't ask me why it works better this way, it just does. Put it on half speed and then count 1,1,2,3,4. Once you have your sense of time honed, then you can use the metronome to brush up every now and then.
