Hey there,
About a year ago, after doing some research around my area (and getting repeatedly shocked by prices that went over $60 ...for just a tuner!!!)I came across a nice and cheapo tuner called a QwickTune, which I picked up for a reasonable $25 or so. It can be set manually to tune to any note, or you can tune your bass in standard tune in auto mode. There's also the possibility to change the center frequency of the "A" note, so if you'd want to tune your bass to A=438, for example (great for picking up some Oteil licks), you can.
Overall, this little gizmo performs flawlessly, fits into the narrowest pocket of any gig bag, and I think it's an exceptional value for the money.
That's my two pennies worth. Hope this helped,

El Pájaro
