: Hello there.....
: I have been playing bass now for 21 years.I dig all kinds of music, but lately my gigs have been with classic rock, and country bands.
: These bands are all basically dance bands(hey, thats what is bringing in the paycheck.)What I'm failing to understand is,people in the band always try to push me to take extended solos(on "Brown eye girl, for example.")
: I'am a groove player.I have nothing AGAINST solos, they're just not my thing.
: A solo written into a song is good, but i believe a good bass line that supports the song (and the band)is whats most important.
: Some people are into it,and thats objection here,i'm just not.Do you guys think i'm crazy?
: Your opinions are greatly appreciated.Thank you all very much!

To be honest with I don't think you are crazy, but on the other hand I think anyone envolved with pro/paid gigs has to bite the bullet at some time. I never liked soloing much either, and pretty much felt the way you do. But, if you are getting pressure and want to make the situation go away, maybe try finding a song that you might actually feel inspired to solo over. Ya never might enjoy it. But, I have to say that I do not think you are crazy and if you are REALLY set against it ......just don't.
