a good extended bass solo. You might be able to squeeze another four-eight bars out of it, but that's about all.
In a dance/cover band, a bass solo needs to be heavy on rhythm & exciting - or the dancers will clear the floor.
Try doing a slap & pop solo during a funky track (you cover any James Brown?) You could spend almost two minutes just popping octaves & 7ths up & down the neck. Has the added benefit of lending itself to visual theatrics - audiences eat that stuff up!
