: : I haven't played the 5's but I have a Soundgear 6 that I've played for 3 years. It sounds pretty good. My SR406 only has a 34" scale but the B sounds pretty good. The 5's probably use a 34" scale also which isn't going to give you the tightest B in the world but like I said it doesn't rattle like a rock in a hubcap or anything. I really like Ibanez basses, but I do believe their quality has gone down some during the past year (just from what I've seen in local music shops). The major complaint you'll hear from people is they have thin necks. I happen to like thin necks because my hands are smaller, but give one to a bass player used to a Fender and he'll probably point out the feel of the neck is too much to get used to. I started out playing Ibanez basses so I never knew the difference. All in all I'd say they are a pretty decent bass for the price. I think they are trying to cater more toward the rock/metal scene right now what with Fieldy from Korn being a big endorser and all - so if you play jazz or country or something you might try one to see if the sounds are kosher with you. I think the basswood bodies make them a little bright. JDP
