: : I played a Conklin 7string the other day. I was really getting off on it. those two high strings in the upper I could go off for days.....however, As I am on a quest for a 6string, and am just starting out, I wanted to know a little about conklin. Do any of you have any experience with these basses? The construction, fit and finish were fine enough and it had active electronics w/bartolini pickups and great wood......but i need to know if this is a good company. Do they have a reputation? What is it? Any input would be great........any input at all.....would be all..........dont be shy..................john

: : Conklin basses have an excellent reputation. Even Victor Wooten has one on his site. Conklin is based out of Springfield, MO and they only make basses to custom order. A 'real' Conklin will start at $3000 and go up from there. Why I put real in quotes is the line you were probably playing was the 'Groove Tool' line by Conklin. They are made in Korea, but from what I've read in Bass Player mag. they are still a pretty decent unit for the price. You might check bass player's site, I think they reviewed a 4 string Groove Tools bass not too long ago. If I remember right it received pretty decent marks. Hope this helps. JDP was a groove was going for about a thousand bucks. Hell, if the other ones start at 3grand and this one played like it did.......maybe i will grab it......late
