Hey...someone mentioned tuning a four as a five string, and as I've been considering doing this for a while anyway, I wanted to get final opinions and any dire warnings before I did it. I'm playing a cheap Korean Samick, 34" scale, and I was going to get medium gauge .128, .110, .085, .061, .044, .029(as opposed to light) La Belle Deep talkin' Bass strings, and put the B-D on, save the G in case I want to go back (Right!). I'm hoping that the heavier srings will enable me to maintain the tension of the four I have now running .106-.040. I know that I may have to file my nut to get the strings on, and was wondering, if this is done carefully, taking care to maintain action, can it be very harmful? I am fairly competent at guitar maintainence, and I'm expeccting to re-intone and re-bais my neck during this process. Any comments greatly appreciated.
