: my friend can't stop going on about his new pick ups for his guitar. He says they make the whole guitar sound 10 times better. Would new bass pick ups have the same effect? if so, what brand do you suggest?

: as of yet i'm playing a mexican fender jazz, it's basic, i like it

If you are happy with your sound, don't change anything! If you are curious, go to a store and try some basses with different types of pickups. Be careful not to try some $3000 bass and say "wow these sound great", then go buy the pickups put them in and get dissappointed. Try basses in a similar price range and style. To be honest with you, there are not that many types of bass pickups to choose from. Judging by your bass, you are more than likely getting a nice "vintage" type sound. Other pickups can give more contemporary sounds that have a different shape to them. Some will give you a bigger fatter vintage sound. Like I said in the beginning, if your sound fits the music you are playing.....don't worry. peace
