I attended the National Guitar Workshop in New Milford, CT, last week. I am a beginning bass player and took the Bass I course. The NGW's Jazz Summit took place the same week and one of the instructors is a gifted blues vocalist and guitarist whose father is a very famous jazz guitarist. He said his father was not able to teach him because, at the father's advanced skill level, he was unable to come down to the son's level. As someone else pointed-out, having Jaco-level skills does not guarantee that one can also teach. Teaching is a special skill.
