: Mmmmmmmmm...Good (and extense) shot, Steve!
: I'm agree with you but I think that slap is very good if you know how to use it (as tapping; walking and all kinds of things you can do with those long neck beasts!).
: Anyway; I'm agree that slap can't be entire base of a bassist's style but it could give a differente taste to some passages.
: Another thing; what do you call bongo style? ...... /I'm impressed that there are others who agree with me."Bongo Style" Is a term I made in the 70's up to ridicule the predomominatelly rythmic style that sweeps the industry.I always felt that anyone could pick up a bass for the first time and beat out a rythym on the strings with their thumb, to make a sound that seems to have merit.Larry Graham's grandmother accidently gave Larry that style when she picked up his bass and instictively beat on the strings with her thumb in jest and low and behold, Larry elaborated on it since it was a unique sound at the time. Being from the bay area at that time, I could never rip off Larry right under his nose so I left that sound to him alone. I always felt I was unique and wanted to stay that way.In short,it's was like playing bongos, only not on two drums.Stanley did it only after he proved his wizardry on the real thing and his money making electric.
