Tjallaways, friends... I got a problem I didn't knew I had until a week ago, which I can't get rid of, so now I turn to you, fellow bassateers. Lately, I've been messing around alot with soloing. However, when I do a solo, I notice that my fretting hand, when it's over the upper parts of the neck, nearly always makes use only of the index, middle and ring finger, while the pinkie stays still most of the time. I've figured, even though the solos sound Ok (IMO), and I've noticed no pains in my leftie so far, that this will cause problems when I eventually reach the higher level where I may like to play faster lines, and therefore will need to make good use of all the fingers I've got. This is not a great problem as long as I stay in the low regions, it's mostly from when I play in the upper registers. I have tried to integrate the finger as much as I can, but that muscle memory seems to get in the way. Or something. So, any advice to get my finger working?
