: I'm thinking of purchasing, and building, a Warmoth 5 string Gecko bass. From what I've read Warmoth makes quality stuff, and the whole thing would go together pretty cheap for a descent 5 string.
: Anyone seen or played or own one?
: There are also other 5 strings out there that are fairly cheap, like the Yamaha RBX765, or the Tobias Toby Pro-5.....etc.
: Any suggestions, comments?
I just recieved my Gecko 6 stringer four days ago. Quality and craftsmanship are typical Warmoth(excellent!) I am still waiting for a Brass adjustable nut from Alembic, so its not completly together yet. One thing, you will have to cut and shape the nut, it does not come pre-made. Carvin offers pre grooved nuts but you still have to sand them to shape. This is a fine bass and all together for my 6er i payed $859.00. I think that there is NO better instrument out there(if you know how to set these things up)for the money then Warmoth. It does suck that you cant try it first, but i have been using warmoth for about 12 years, so i know thier quality and wasnt afraid to get the Gecko. If you do decide to go with the Gecko, you will not be disappointed and it is fun putting the thing together and setting it up.....good luck....john
