I was just wondering you opinion on the following subject: what makes for a good bass sound. I've always been of the opinion that 80% of my sound comes from my fingers and 19% from the amp. I find the kind of bass I use is pretty much irrelevant - I've been playing a $300 Samick Jazz copy for the past 6 years and have no intention of changing. It's all in the fingers. By varying my left hand technique I can get pretty close to any sound I want. Even though I'm a left hand finger player I have no problems gettinging a pick sound or even something close to a slap sound. The amp though is pretty important. There's your warm boomy Ampeg sound and the slightly fuzzy acoustic amp sound. I like the latter myself - I use to play through an acoustic 360 when I was young at a studio and fell in love with the sound. The reason I'm writing this is becouse I've developed a lot of theories about bass sound but I don't get to talk to many other bass players to see what they think about it, so maybe I'm totally off track. Anyway I'd like to know what you think. This is great message board.
Keep on jammin,
