: I've just bought a Crafter fretless acoustic (model BA - 400EQ). It's a lovely bass, but the frett markers on the side of the neck are the same as on a fretted instrument - i.e. they are in the middle of the fret rather than on it, resuylting in having to play slightly in front of the dot.
: Is this noral or do you think the wrong binding has been put on?
well that sounds odd ...usually, side markers in the middle of the frets are used in basses with fret lines. If your finger board is unlines, the dots should be in fret position. I gues it will force you to rely in your ears rather than in your eyes, which is not a bad thing anyway.
Buena suerte and keep that bass up front in the mix,
