: I've just bought a Crafter fretless acoustic (model BA - 400EQ). It's a lovely bass, but the frett markers on the side of the neck are the same as on a fretted instrument - i.e. they are in the middle of the fret rather than on it, resuylting in having to play slightly in front of the dot.
: Is this noral or do you think the wrong binding has been put on?
: I have a fretless Dean 6. It has the side markers right in the middle of the frets (so to speak) just like a fretted instrument. I simply adjust the intonation at the 12th fret to be right between the 2 dots (making the notes right ON the dot on the other frets). That way you don't have to play behind or ahead of the dot, but right ON the dot. It's perfectly normal - nothing wrong with the bass. Just inntonate it the way you want it. Hope this helps. JDP
