: Hi! I'm new to this board. I'm just beginning to play bass and I have a few questions. I hope I don't sound too dumb, don't really know much about electric bass yet. So here goes:

: 1)What are common effects/pedals that are used with the bass? What are the good brands which are inexpensive and don't fall apart?

: 2)What is slapping?

: 3)Are there any tips/tricks I should know while I'm learning to play.

: Thanx!

Welcome to the army, Jada. Maybe I can give you some guidance...
1) As far as I know, chorus is the most populat effect among bassists (distortion is becoming increasely popular, too). In my book, Boss and DOD effect pedals offer the greatest bang-for-the buck factor.
2) A percussive technique consisting in hitting the strings with your right thumnb to produce a nice snapping tone. Don't mean to toot my own horn, but if you read any Spanish, you can check out a basic explanation about how it works in my site, 44Hz.com (http://www.44hz.com) ...oh, I did it again !!!!
3) Yes, lots of them. Most of them you'll find out along your learning experience. Anyway, I suggest posting here with more specific questions about this, and someone will surely have the right answer.
Hope this helped. Buena suerte and keep your bass up front in the mix,
El Pájaro
