My favorite bass would probably have to be my reissue Fender Jazz,
It's probably the most versatile bass in my collection, it's got
LOTS of different sounds, the neck is super comfortable and is
a nice light weight for those 4 hour gigs. I also love my MusicMan
Stingray, the thing has incredible punch and cut for situations
that demand it. The 'Ray is a bit heavier though, and the neck is pretty
wide, more like a P-bass in feel. I call it my "P-bass on steroids"
The bass I've held on to for almost 25 years is my trusty old
Rick 4001. It's an old road warrior, been re-fretted twice, comfy
as an old pair of Levi's. It can't do everything, but there is
NOTHING else that deliver the Rick sound. String it up with a set
of new Rotosounds, open all the controls, grab a pick and WATCH OUT!!
gnarly, grungy, filthy Chris Squire tone...OR, put on a set of
Thomastik flats, roll of the tone a bit, and you've got a sweet,
woody, warm vintage 60's type sound if needed.
