: Hi all, I have no problems creating jazz and blues bass lines. But when it comes to funk lines, I have problems choosing which note to slap or which notes to pop. Help! And can anyone give me a guideline on creating a good and solid funk basslines? Thank You.
First off........ya don't need to slap to play funk. Most my fav funk songs are not slapped on the bass. I could go into tons of tech talk about the finer points of playing funk, but I feel that listening may be your best first lesson. Don't start with modern funksters......go back and check out some oldies. James Brown's bass/drum teams are incredible.......check out Sly......older Stevie Wonder......I see funk as a music form that is ultimately about generating a "certain" feeling. Once you get that feeling in your head.......you will never forget or lose it. I hope my humble opinions on the subject provide some perspective on the situation........
