: I have a ´67 Gibson EB2, with the original humbucker. This bass is wonderful to play, absolutely fantastic! But the sound of that humbucker...well..it's very deep, and it's really hard to get a comfortable sound. Does any of you have any suggestions what to do? Maybe change the pick-up? As I said I really love to play this bass, so any help is welcome!
That bass might be somewhat a collector's item. So any modification you do to it will certainly diminish its value. If you don't mind about your bass losing some of its value, then a pickup replacement (and an active preamp, perhaps) might be the way to go.
If it were up tome, though, I'd leave the instrument unscatched and start looking for some other bass as a main axe. The question you should ask yourself is: how much am I going to play this bass? Is it going to be my main (or only) bass?
That's my $0.02 worth. Buena suerte and keep your bass up front in the mix,
