: I know that there are different types of basses out there like jazz and precision basses, but which is best for me? I'm looking to play what ever type of bass that any old garage band would have in it. Would a P bass be the kind that I want? Hopefully someone out there knows and would be able to help me out, I'd be most appreciative. Thanks.
O.K., you need to go get a custom hand crafted Jerzy Drozd 6 string frettless. I think that would be perfect for the garage band and real easy to play. It should only cost about 4000. dollars............WAIT, I'm sorry, my dream was somehow making it onto this post.....I think a P-Bass would be perfect, maybe get the P-J set pickups for added tonal range, but the P-bass is hard to beat for a first bass. Once again though, get out to the music store and play everything you can get your hands on. Don't worry about price, just get a feel for the good stuff as well as the budget stuff. Then when you are ready to buy that perfect bass....you will know. And don't let some comission starved sales person push you around. Its your money..get your moneys worth. peace to you......john
