: I'm trying to get into a jazz program, a collaboration between Julliard and Lincoln Center, and I don't know, but I believe I'm going to have to play an upright...*sigh* It's stressing me out, because I'd have to change when I go to college as well, but i don't have the money to rent or buy a bass, and I don't know if I could do it..

I learned to play upright in college by taking amazingly cheap lessons as college credits, and playing in orchestra. I did not have to buy one until after I was finished with school. The school always had plenty of basses, and it was a very small state college. Don't pass this opportunity up... It is very difficult to learn later in life. I do not regret the time I spent learning how to play double bass. It opens up many opportunities for playing.
