I would recommend that you invest in a seperate head and cabinet. If you really do like your SWR, try the Workingman's 300, which is a less expensive head, and couple that with any of the wonderful 4X10 cabs on the market.
The nice tight sound you love so much with the 4X10 is due, not to the total surface area of the speaker cones (as was suggested above), but due to the individual mass of each cone. Think of it as bags full of sand. It is much less strenuous to toss four 6lb. bags of sand individually, than to toss a single 24lb. bag. My point is, the sound is tighter because with 4 smaller cones moving at once, they each have to do less work and thus don't have as far to move. This makes the speakers "jump" back more quickly and thus, sound tighter.
For these reasons, I would go head + 4X10 cabinet.
