Playing with a pick is just another weapon for your arsenal. Don't paint yourself into a corner, be open minded. Lots of great bass has been played with a pick. Just as slapping, playing with a thumb or moving your playing position up and down the strings for different tones/attack. I started playing with a pick partly
because I played guitar first, and because the gibson eb3 punches much better with one. I moved to fingerstyle a few years ago when I joined a blues/soul band. Now whatever the song calls for is the technique used.
: : I;m 15 and have been playing bass fer about 8 years now, and i've always played with my fingers, always will. but i was just looking to see what everyone else uses and why they use it.

: It all depends on what kind of a sound I'm going for. I use my fingers most of the time. But there are times when I need a pick to get the technique and sound that I'm looking for.
