It sounds like an early-mid 80's MM, and probably has a 4 bolt neck. I have a "transitional" MusicMan with the old logo, in the 22k serial range, and it has the same bridge you are speaking of. My bass has been dated between 80-82.

If it looks-sounds-plays good, $650-750 would be a fair price. I doubt I'll ever sell mine- it's been one of my main axes for 8 years.

: Hey, I have some quick questions for anyone who knows their stuff
: about stingray basses. I was browsing at my local music store when I saw it.
: It's a natural 4 string stingray with a birdseye neck, and what looks to be the
: remains of the old string mutes used down at the bridge, which I understand most
: people took off. The serial number is 28463. I have looked and looked and been
: unable to find any sort of date for this. The strings are not through the body,
: and it's not a 3 bolt neck. It does have the ernie ball logo on it though.

: Any ballpark estimates? Furthermore, what would a fair price be. For it's age
: the only flaw I can see is that the neck joint isn't perfectly tight, but the
: sustain and playability don't seem to suffer at all. Thanks!

: Chris
