I got a question about tone...or maybe technique.
How do fingerstyle bassists get that real "clanky" piano-like sound? is it technique, pickups, strings, EQ settings, effects...?
I'm not talking about slapping or popping. what I'm talking about is fingerstyle playing, yet it sounds real percussive like a pick. am I nuts here or what? :)
for an example, there's an old metal song by the group Anthrax called "Caught in a Mosh" that has the exact bass tone I'm talking about. the bassist of this band, Frank Bello, plays fingerstyle, but his tone sounds like he's hammering on piano strings lol sorry cant think of a better way to describe it
