I boiled my strings for years useing a small amount of dawn dish washing liquid. I put the liquid in the pan first then strings and ad water. The problem with boiling stings is if there very old you will need to re mount them at 90 degrees from where there orginal position was. If you mount at 180 degrees you will be playing on flatspots or cuts and with a little wear between bottom of string and fret bar will break very easy. Mark W.
