: Anybody out there ever use flat wound strings on a fretted bass? Any thoughts
: on it?
: Just curious...
I've use'd Rotosound RS55LC's or Swing bass ever since I've been playing bass. I do have a Fender Mexicalli fretless that came stock with Fender flats, and honestly, I didn't like the stock strings at all. Now, there may be a diffrence in what came on the Mex. Bass, and what you buy in the store's., I don't know. But the stock mexican strings were sorta dead, and felt like a limp noodle!. so off they came, and on went the Roto's.
Now to protect my '59 Precision against fretwear, ( it doesn't have much, and I want to keep it that way), I installed a set of Thomastik-Infeld Jazz flats. 6 years later, they still feel and sound as fresh as the day I put them on the bass.. Now to me, there is a string!.. harmonics up the pazoo and slippery as a wet eel!... I love 'em. I never thought I would like flats till I got the Thomastiks. Now please don't take me wrong, there are alot of good quality trings out there. its just that the Roto 55lc's and the Thom J's are my choice.
Good luck on your decision.
