: My amp's clipping LED often lits, when I slap/pop, so I have to reduce the gain. But when I'm playing fingerstyle, the output of the amp is very low. So I thought about buying a compressor.
: A bassis told me that the Boss CS-3 Compressor/Sustainer wouldn't be bad. Some other guys said that the Alesis Nanocompressor or the Behringer Autocom PRO MDX-1400 (both for rack and about the same price) are quite useful for bassists, too.
: What's your opinion on these comps, or is there better gear outside (Hey, it shouldn't be too expensive; I'm just a poor, 18 year-old bassist)

: Thanks!

Hey Toby,
All the units you mentioned should work fine for you. However, I'd add the dbx 160 to the list. It's compact, easy to use and not too pricey.
Whatever tyhe brand/model you end up with, if you have an effects loop in your amp, try plugging the compressor in there. That way, the inevitable noise added by the compressor wouldn't go trough the gain stage. Just a thought. Buena suerte and keep your bass up front in the mix,

El Pájaro.
