: Hey all, I am going to buy another bass. I am really looking into a Jazz....What kind do you have, do you have any complaints? Not just Fender Jazzes, any kind. Especially you El Pajaro, the Modulas really intrigues me. Any input from anybody would be greatly appreciated........peace.........john

Hey there John,
How's it going my friend? Hope everything's runnin' cool...
My main bass is a Modulus VJ4, which is a "modern replica" of a 64' Jazz. It's been a year now since I got it and I can't be happier with it. It has an alder body, composite neck (no truss rod), Bartolini passive pickups and Gotoh hardware. The bass sounded pretty darn good all passive, but after a few months I upgraded the electronics with a Moon AC-1 preamp that sounds fantastic.
The bass is big and a little on the heavy side, but it plays like a dream and sounds terrific: punchy, fat, and very well balanced from string to string and with no dead spots anywhere. They're a little pricey but I picked up mine as a special offer from LA's Bass Exhange (thanks, Dave!!!). Even with the shipping and import tax charges it was a fantastic deal. To hear what it can do, check out any of my MP3ed songs at 44Hz.com (I'll be uploading another one soon). And if you like, I can email you a photo of the instrument, so just let me know.
In another note, I understand Modulus is now offering the same bass but with a wooden fingerboard (mine is composite), which I haven't tried but I'm sure it's killer as well.
Hope this helped. Buena suerte and keep your bass up front in the mix,
El Pájaro
