: Sorry for such a simple question on a board that is clearly populated with actual musicians....but I was wondering if you all had recommendations on a good instrument/gear for me to start with. Not crazy expensive, but also not something that I'll regret buying as soon as I know anything at all about the instrument.... I couldn't be any more of a beginner, so any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome Alison,
To keep it short and to the point(I have a tendency to ramble on)
The Mexican series Fenders are great,I own one.If you buy one you won't regret
it.Also Ibanez and Yamaha make excellent entry level basses.Go to their websites
to see the models, then go to Samash.com as a starting point for prices.Prices
may vary depending upon where you live, but at least you won't pay $100.00 more
for a $200.00 bass.Good luck.Let us know what you buy.

Hope this helped,
