: Hey, I am 16 years old and have been playing bass and guitar ever since I can remember. I just recently picked up a fretless bass at the guitar shop and messed around on it. I have saved up quite an amount of money and cant decide whether to go fretless or not. What are some of the big differences in the two? Also, I cannot decide on a warwick thumb pro 5 string or a pedulla rapture. Does anyone have any experience with these basses?

Well....you certainly don't fool around do ya? Those are both two very nice basses with very individual sounds and nice craftmanship. Should you go fretless or not????? ummmmmmmmm.....I would honestly have a bit of trouble "telling" you which you should go for. I think the biggest factor maybe what type of music are you interesting in playing. If you have a wide variety of music in mind the fretless could be a good choice. Your hands and approach to playing a fretless could give many different sounds that could appeal to many styles. Fretted basses are great instruments that can also provide alot in terms of sound and variety.....I haven't really said much ...lol...but it really come down to which one suits you best....bottom line..."they are different animals"....choose one...or choose both....
