: Sorry for such a simple question on a board that is clearly populated with actual musicians....but I was wondering if you all had recommendations on a good instrument/gear for me to start with. Not crazy expensive, but also not something that I'll regret buying as soon as I know anything at all about the instrument.... I couldn't be any more of a beginner, so any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

About six years ago my bass broke and I needed a new one quick and had little money. I bought a Samick Jazz bass copy for $300. I ended up liking it so much I only replaced it a few months ago. Samick is a korean company and they are in some way onnected to Valley Arts Guitars.
I also bought, last year an Ibanez 25 watt practice amp for my apartment for only a $130. It sounds great for its size and has a built in compressor and head phone jack.
I hope this helps.
