: What are the notes on the fretboard. All I know is that each one makes a different pitch; I have no idea what the notes are.
: Thank you for your time.

The open bass strings starting with the lowest string are E, A, D, & G. The first fret on the lowest string (the E string) is F. The first on the second string (the A string) is Bflat. The first fret on the third string (the D string) is Eflat. The first fret on the 4th and highest string (the G string) is Ab. Each sussesive fret moves up a half step, e.g. the secong and third frets on the E string are Fsharp and G, on the A string B and C, the D string E and F etc. All the notes of the instrument make up the chromatic scale. They are E,F,F#(sharp) or Gflat, G, G# or Aflat, A, A# or Bflat, B, C, C# or Dflat, D or Eflat. The scale then repeats an octave higher. Check this out on your ax and
you'll see how this works. Any beginner method book will explain this clearly as well. I reccomend Chuck Rainey,s The Complete Electric Bass Player Vol 1. Good Luck.
