Hey there Jeff,
I know it kinda sucks, but whenever you break a string, it is best to buy an entire set and replace all strings at once. Yes, it's more expensive, but if you don't change'em all at once, the new string will sound brighter and louder than the others, and you want your bass to sound consistent and coherent all over its range. And judging from the date of your post, it would have been a helluva present for Christmas ...did you drop old Santa a couple of lines?
As far as pricing goes, I can't tell, prices vary from country to country and from brand/model to brand/model, but I'm sure you should be able to pick up a decent set of strings (let's say D'addario XLs) for a reasonable price. Happy hinting! Buena suerte and keep your bass up front in the mix,

El Pájaro
