: I want to get a distortion pedal for my bass, but they're really expensive...Would a guitar distortion pedal work with a bass? Wah pedal?

: And another question....What is overdrive?

A guitar disrotrtion pedal works great, but you might lose some of your low end. The bass-specific peals tend to keep the low end more powerful. Wah pedals work great...even better than distortion, IMHO. Again, same problem as most guitar pedals...low end signal loss. Usually less low end loss with wah than distortion. try other pedals. One of my favorites (before I fried it) was a MXR Phase 90.
As to Overdrive...Overdrive refers to an overdriving of tubes usually, although it is usually solid state now(most pedals). It usually sounds like a mild distortion, more of the Santana tone as opposed to System of a Down's dirty distortion. Overdrive is usually reffered to as "searing" and distortion "dirty". OD tends to be better for single note type melodic passages, whereas distortion is usually used for power chords and the like. That's the lesson for today...new one some other time.
