Yo,
not many, really. The Sterling's most important innovation (besides being a little smaller than the Stingray) is the intruduction of a "triple coil" pickup. How come? well, the third coil is really a "dummy" coil, which allows the system to run in paralell or series with no further trouble. You should be able to get "single coil" sounds without the hum that way.
