: : Hey

: : What is everyone's opinion on the use of distortion or overdrive with electric bass?

: : I use a Boss Bass Overdrive pedal for a *slight* touch of dirt and growl, but not that over-the-top "Marhsall" sound.

: I love to use distortion, for a *slight* touch and for over the top, I actually use a seperate amp just for the distortion tones, that way the clean tone is always there.

HUB,

I think you've got it right. I spent a lot money about a year or so ago buying a bunch of cool overdrive pedals(looking "for the one") for my rig. I was hoping to land "the sound" without carrying around another amp. While the Fulltone Bassdrive II and Dredgetone Angler(Bass version) are excellent, versatile pedals, nothing compares to my Bedrock 50watt through a couple celstion 12s next to my main bass rig(Mesa 400+ w/tech cabs).
That having been said, I think overdrive pedals are great for bass. My favorite for recording is my 70s Big Muff *. For live, its gotta be the Fulltone-Smoooooooth!

Happy new year!

Milan
