Brewmeister,
First, what kind of bass do you have? If your bass has 2 pickups already, it shouldn't be too hard to wire them in.

You might want to look at the Stewart-MacDonald's Guitar Supply website (www.stewmac.com; they have bass stuff, too); they've got a section on there that deals with wiring guitars, and most of that will easily adapt for bass.

More than wiring, though, it occurs to me that you might have to do some routing or something in order to fit the beatle bass-style pickups into your bass, but I'm not sure. Work like that isn't extraordinarily difficult, but it has to be done right.

As far as a string mute goes, I hate to tell you this, but you're one of the few people I've dealt with in the past 20 years or so who actually *wants* one; most people want to get rid of them! You might want to check with either WD Music Products (www.wdmusicproducts.com) or AllParts (www.allparts.com) for the vintage-style parts.

Hope that helps!

-Bob
