Brian, I think Peri and Pat gave you some great suggestions. I don't know whether they're in any of the real books or not (and I haven't checked), but I might add the Errol Garner classic, "Misty", and some of the stuff Marvin Hamlisch has written for Broadway. Marvin's music, like that of Gershwin and Berlin and Porter, could obviously be categorized as pop or show tunes but, IMHO, a number of Marvin's songs from "A Chorus Line" and "New York, New York" are becoming standards.
