: Thanks Bob
: I appreciate the info Bob. Dating these instruments is a bit fuzzy.
: All the early 70's eb3's I have seen always have different tuners than mine.
: The tuners on this eb3 looks more like the older style tuners . they are open and the mountimg plate on the back of the neck is not rectangular like the 70's style. Do you have any info on the years the different tuners were used? Thanks
: The shape
I'm not 100% sure when the transition was made between the different styles of tuners, to be honest...
When you're dealing with guitars from that era, a lot of the time, you'll find minor variations in hardware like tuners, etc. The factory might have run out of a certain part, but had some spares of a different part that would work, so they used that rather than hold up the production line. Because of things like that, there's always the possibility of something being inconsistent with the published specifications.
Also, keep in mind that at the time, Gibson was using 2 *very* different headstocks for the EB bass series (regular and slotted), too.
Let me do a little bit of digging to see if I can find anything a little more definite, ok?
