: How do Geddy Lee and Flea get that heavy and round sounds (full of highs and lows)???

: Is it possible to achieve that kind of sound by "cheaper" ways??

: I know they use Fender Jazz Bass and Modulus Flea Bass (with Gallien Krueger amp), but the secret is in the effects, amps or other???

: Peace

>>>> Can't tell you much about Flea, I've just never been much of a
fan...Geddy, however...I started getting into Rush around the
time of 2112, and saw the "Hemispheres" tour at the Long Beach
Arena, 79 or so as I recall, with Pat Travers band (Mars Cowling
on bass!!) I remember Geddy playing Rickenbackers only, a 4001
and a doubleneck Rick with bass and 12 string necks...Here's
what he used...BGW 850B power amps, with ASHLY preamps, going
thru BIG 2-15" cabinets (custom made-"theile" design)....I also
recall him mentioning something about SVT's and V4B cabs, can't
recall, it's been a few years...These were the RUSH classic
years, IMHO, while he used the Rick basses...The sound that
nite was to die for, sorta like Chris Squire, but with a more
ballsy low end....The sound CUT, even to the cheap seats where
I was...Killer.....I saw him after that many times, thru the
Steinberger and Wal years..(Good sound, but not the same)
and the last T4E tour with the Jazz Bass....I think he was
running TRACE ELLIOT stuff for that tour...He got a good sound
more like the early Rickenbacker years..My hat is off to a
great band, and a great bassist...GEDDY LEE!!!

Cheers,
Pat H.
