: I love the Bass, and have recently decided to learn how to play it. I've look at a lot of stuff on the Internet, but truthfully have no ideal on how to get stated. If anyone has any advice on what type of Bass I should start out with, or anything that you think will help. I would greatly appreciate any advice.

Like James said, the Yamaha, Ibanez, and Samick basses are good, but you might want to check out the Kramer Focus 420S bass at; I just got one Friday, and right out of the box, I was *very* impressed!

Even better, the Kramer is only $89.95; they've also got a bass/amp combo for around $150.

To get yourself started, I'll second what James said; get some lessons from someone who knows what they're doing. It's easy to develop bad habits and technique if you try it yourself, and it's *very* difficult to have to 'unlearn' and learn stuff over again.

Ditto for James' advice about learning theory and *practicing*!

Hope that helps! Let us know how you're doing!
