: Hello, I'd really like to learn the electric bass, but I have small hands and short fingers. Does this have any impact on one's ability on the bass? Or does it all come down to practice and proper technique? I had a salesman tell me that "the best players have huge hands with alien-like finger length" (No kidding) So what's everyone's opinion on this?

: Thanks

Brad, DON'T EVER LISTEN TO ANYONE WHO TELLS YOU THAT YOU CAN'T DO SOMETHING!
That salesman sounds like an insecure sadist that tries to make himself
feel superior by putting others down. He's trying to knock you out of the
game before you even put your uniform on. As Mr.Hands said, some of the
best in the bass business don't have big hands. Also, anyone that plays
upright has "small hands" compared to the scale of that instrument.
GO FOR IT BRAD; YOU WILL SUCCEED! Believe me.
