: Any comments on six string basses would be very appreciated.
: What are your experiences with them? Is there really use for the sixth string while playing with a band?
: Does it get in your way much when you play? Are they always neck heavy?
: Do you have to keep them high up if you play complicated lines?
: My local shops don't have any six string basses so I'm going to travel to the capital to buy a new bass.
: I'd like to know something about six strings before I go and test one.
Hi, just got a Conklin 7 string. It doesn't get in the way, but it does take a bit of getting used to. Its well worth it due to the incredible range you have at your disposal. I think that whether you need "extra" strings or not just depends on what you feel like playing. The neck on the Conklin is a monster, but it is actually forcing me to improve my technique, to be less sloppy. I find it easier to play with the bass a little bit higher than my fender, but nothing outrageous. Hope that helps. B
