: Does anyone here use Elixir bass strings? I know they're supossed to
: be pretty good.(They better be @ $45.00 a set) It says that they have
: a polyweb coating. Does this make it a flatwound, or a new kind of
: roundwound? Also, has anyone tried Thomastik strings? I'm really just
: interested in flatwounds. Any report will be appreciated.

I've tried Elixer strings twice. The first time I thought they were really great. The second time I broke three strings in one month. Based on this rather scanty evidence I won't use them again.
I tend to break a lot of strings because I play really hard so you might not have this problem. Fender strings also tend to break a lot I've noticed. In my experience Rotosounds are the only strings that can stand up to the beating I give them.
The exlir strings I used felt and sounded like roundwounds.

I'm curious if other people break a lot of strings. I've met other bass players who claim to never have broken a string. This has been a problem for me since I first started playing and has occured on every bass I have owned.
