: Hello, I'd really like to learn the electric bass, but I have small hands and short fingers. Does this have any impact on one's ability on the bass? Or does it all come down to practice and proper technique? I had a salesman tell me that "the best players have huge hands with alien-like finger length" (No kidding) So what's everyone's opinion on this?

: Thanks

um ... stretching. spred your fingers over a straightened knee, then bend your knee until you feel strain between your fingers. i've been doing this for maybe 2 weeks, and i can see the difference. i've gained a 1/4 inch span, so if you have smaller hands .. working on gaining some more stretch. and if you do decide to start playing ... do some exercises on the neck, use all four fingers and progress up the frets on the same string, which will get them more used to the stretch between the F and the Ab (on the E string)
