I used to play Rotosound Flatwounds on my Jazz Bass. They were great for the
blues band I was in at the time, but they have a much deeper sound than the
roundwound strings, and you lose the ring, that is sometimes critical to your
sound. Vicky is correct that they are easier on your fingers...LOL.
Since getting back together with my childhood musician friends, and returning
to playing classic rock, I have returned to roundwound strings.
Go to a music store, find two basses stringed with both flatwound & roundwond
strings. Plug em both in, and select the stings that sound the best to YOU!
