: : What are the differences between a hollow-body and a solid-body electric bass? Can aybody reccomend a good hollow-body bass(s) to buy?

: Hollow bodies are what they say they are, hollow. They tend to be a bit more mellow
: than a solid (but not always).

: OTOH Acoustic (like an acoustic guitar) don't have much volume, and many don't have
: much bass tone. The best CHEAP one is Hohner ($350 or so new).

Try a Carvin AC40, uses Active undersaddle pickup, allied to a Carvin r600 bass combo, I get a wonderful sound. Low down jazzy when required, and punchy highs at the push of a button. I am using tape wound black nylon .060 strings by La Bella - labelled "Deep Talkin'Bass" - they certainly live up to their name. I can get them for 14.99 here in UK, about 20 bucks I supposs - Oh! and they were on the guitar when I picked it up, and I have stuck with them ever since, I just love the fidelity of the sound I am getting!
